The Tours

Four theme tour brochures give ideas and make recommendations for the individual planning of the GRAND TOUR 2010. You are free in the planning and organisation of your trip.

Art Sites (KunstRäume)

Numerous old and new art sites can be discovered in 2010, opening up new perspectives on the Ruhr area and the culture state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The trip takes you to the Art Cologne in Cologne, to the Dortmunder U, a former brewery that will house the Museum am Ostwall, to the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, to the Centre of International Sculpture or the project EMSCHER KUNST.2010, where international artists with their works open up an island to art.

Light Art (Lichtkunst)

The Ruhr area has in recent years become the most important centre of light art in Europe. Around 150 permanent works of art and light arrangements in public spaces are yours to visit. At the world’s first Biennale of International Light Art, 60 internationally renowned artists show their works in private rooms. At the same time, the tour leads to other important light art works on the rivers Ruhr and Rhine.

Architectural and domestic Culture (Bau- und Wohnkultur)

The tour on architectural and domestic culture takes you, amongst others, to museums that have been redesigned or newly designed, such as the Museum Küppersmühle at Duisburg’s inner harbour by Herzog & de Meuron, the new building of the Museum Folkwang Essen designed by David Chipperfield Architects, or the extension building to the K20 in Düsseldorf by Dissing & Weitling from Copenhagen. At the same time the domestic part of the tour provides insights into the private spaces of 58 residents in the Ruhr metropolis.
